I get it, I was the same way.
There were days when I lived on Coke, school pizza and fast food on the way to graduate school at night. By the time I would eat breakfast at 6 a.m. I was starving by lunch time. Starting the day so early messed up my eating schedule, and I felt like I was eating all day. And don’t forget all the treats in the office or faculty meetings. Then, I would go home exhausted and totally out of energy. Many days I was tired and grumpy, and my students took the brunt of it, especially if I had a first period class.
It wasn’t until I turned 40 and got tired of yo-yo dieting that I started learning about nutrition and how to fuel my body. I started eating better and running, and I began feeling better than ever. Now at 44 years old, I feel better than I did when I was in my 20s. I continue to learn daily about nutrition and how to fuel my body. When I became a Dr. Sears Certified Health Coach, one of the first groups of people I wanted to serve was teachers because my heart is in the classroom.
I know numerous teachers who are skilled in the classroom and the most LOVING people you will ever meet. But, many would earn that F in self care. It’s time to put YOU on the schedule and turn that grade around!
